![]() ![]() The decision to install Mint on my Fanless D525 SSD setup was a no brainer. What were tose guys thinking? I had recently installed Linux Mint 13 MATE on my IBM Thinkpad and absolutely fell in love with it. Ubuntu 12.04/Unity was out of the question. Now it was time to pick a fresh new Linux distro to load on it. In the past year the price of SSD drives have come down to a level that makes them a lot more affordable for the "common man." I found a sale in an e-mail flier and bought a nice 120Gb drive for $79. The next step to a completely silent computer was to get all the moving parts out of the system. I bought the board and case about a year ago and installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it. I wanted/needed a silent solution that was easy on power. It is a fanless MiniITX design that I put together because I was tired of the old wind turbine tower I was using before. I have an Intel D525 with GMA 3150 graphics. I've also used some of the stripped down minimalist distros for older hardware. Most of them have been Ubuntu or one of its variants. Along the way I tried several different Linux distributions. Hi folks, this is my first post here on the forum. ![]()
